There is no single best virtual assistant company. The right one depends on whether you need offshore cost savings, a dedicated US-based Executive Assistant, an elite specialized freelancer, or an ongoing team that spans admin, specialist, and strategic work. This guide segments 13 providers by that question and shows exactly what each one publishes.
One disclosure before you read another word: Nacho is one of the 13 companies below. We wrote this because prospects kept asking us the same question, and we would rather answer it straight than pretend the other twelve do not exist. Nacho wins one category here. We say plainly where it loses, and we point you at the competitor that beats us when one does.
How we compared these companies
Every figure in this guide comes from what each provider publishes about itself or from our own published rates. We did not estimate pricing, invent headcounts, or score anyone on quality. Where a provider does not publish a number, this guide says “not published” rather than guessing. Verify current pricing before you buy, because rates move.
We also did not rank these one through thirteen. A ranking would imply Toptal and Wing are competing for the same buyer, and they are not. Toptal sells you a senior engineer. Wing sells you an offshore assistant at $499 a month. Instead the list is alphabetical, and the recommendations are organized by the job you are trying to get done.

Pricing above is what each provider published as of this article’s last update. Blank cells are genuine: several of these companies require a sales call before they quote a number.
Best for offshore cost savings: Wing
Wing publishes the lowest entry price in this group at $499 a month, month-to-month, with dedicated assistants primarily based in the Philippines and task coverage across 25+ categories. If your constraint is budget and your work is well-defined and repeatable, nothing else on this list starts lower.
The honest trade-off is time zones and scope. Wing sells part-time (4 hours a day) or full-time (8 hours a day) blocks on a fixed schedule, so it is built for task execution rather than judgment calls. If your work needs someone who can sit in your afternoon and make a decision without you, price is the wrong thing to optimize.
Best for a full-time offshore Executive Assistant: Athena
Athena is the choice when you want one dedicated, full-time Executive Assistant and you want the price known in advance. It publishes a flat $3,000 a month for a Philippines-based EA working 40 hours a week. That is a real advantage over providers who make you book a call just to learn a number.
The cost is flexibility. Athena’s model is a 12-month annual contract for a full-time person, which is a meaningful commitment if you are not yet sure you can fill 40 hours a week with delegable work. It is also EA support specifically, so specialist or strategic work means a separate vendor.

Best for 24/7 and after-hours coverage: Magic
Magic is the only provider here that pairs a dedicated assistant with a 24/7 on-demand pool, which matters if requests arrive at 11pm and cannot wait until morning. Published rates run $1,080 to $2,160 a month, billed weekly, with no long-term commitment, and its Magic Match process curates the assistant for you.
Magic recruits from a global talent pool, so time-zone alignment with your team is not guaranteed the way it is with a US-based provider. Its hours also come in fixed 20 or 40 hour weekly blocks rather than a budget you can flex.
Best for one dedicated US-based Specialist role: BELAY
If you know you need exactly one thing, a Bookkeeper, a Virtual Assistant, or a Social Media Manager, and you want that person US-based, BELAY is built for precisely that. It places dedicated US-based contractors in defined roles on fixed monthly hour blocks, which is a clean fit when your work sorts neatly into a single job description.
Two caveats. BELAY does not publish pricing, so learning your number requires a sales call, and its plans carry a 6-month minimum contract. If your needs are still taking shape, that is a lot to commit to before you know the shape.
Best for the lowest US-based entry price: Zirtual
Zirtual publishes plans starting at $549 a month for a dedicated, US-based Executive Assistant, month-to-month. Among US-based providers here it has the lowest published starting price and the shortest commitment, which makes it the natural first step for a founder testing whether they will actually delegate.
Zirtual sells Executive Assistant support on fixed monthly hour blocks. Growing past that usually means upgrading to a bigger plan rather than reallocating the same money toward a Specialist or a Fractional Executive.

Best for elite specialized freelancers: Toptal
Toptal is the strongest option on this list for deep technical and specialized work. It screens a global network it describes as the “top 3%” across business, design, and technology, including developers, designers, finance experts, Fractional CFOs, and product and project managers. A client advisor matches you (Toptal cites average matches in under 24 hours) and there is a no-risk trial before you commit.
That speed and screening is real, and no managed VA service on this list will beat Toptal for a senior engineer. What you give up is management: you direct the freelancer yourself, rates are set per freelancer rather than published, and the network is global and fully remote.

Best for one-off, fixed-scope projects: Freelancer.com
When you have a clearly defined project with a fixed scope, a logo, an app build, a data cleanup, Freelancer.com’s bid model is efficient. You post the project, freelancers worldwide bid against each other, and you pick. Coverage spans 2,700+ categories, so obscure skills are findable.
This is self-service by design. There is no account manager, no vetting beyond self-reported profiles and reviews, and quality varies with who you hire. The platform charges published fees on both sides of the transaction. You are trading management time for a lower sticker price, which is a reasonable trade if the project is genuinely one-off.

Best for the largest self-serve talent pool: Upwork
Upwork gives you the broadest reach of anything on this list, across essentially every freelancer category, with hourly or fixed-price contracts. If you want to browse, interview, and hire yourself, and you want maximum optionality, this is where the most candidates are.
The costs are your time and consistency. You post jobs, screen proposals, interview, and manage every relationship, with no account management included. Profiles are self-reported, so vetting is on you, and the platform layers a client marketplace fee plus contract initiation fees onto what you pay the freelancer.

Best for hiring one Fractional Executive: Go Fractional
Go Fractional is a marketplace of senior fractional executives and operators, the CTO, CMO, and COO tier. If you have identified a specific leadership gap and want to hand-pick the person filling it, you can browse the network yourself or have someone matched, then contract directly. It also supports a fractional-to-full-time path if you are effectively trialing a hire.
Rates are quote-based and negotiated per engagement, and you manage the executive yourself. There is no account management layer and no admin or specialist support around the executive, so any operational work they generate lands back on you.

Best for executive search and board seats: Bolster
Bolster is the right call when the role is senior and permanent. It pairs expert recruiters with a search platform and a network of 20,000+ executives, and it fills full-time, board, fractional, interim, advisory, and project roles, including equity-compensated and independent board seats. Search fees are published as flat rates, and on-demand engagements start at $2,500 plus a markup.
Nothing else here does board-level search. But Bolster surfaces candidates and you hire and manage them, and each new role means a new search or engagement rather than reallocating an existing budget.

Best for enterprise strategy projects: Catalant
Catalant is built for enterprises and private equity firms running defined strategy, transformation, or M&A work. By its own numbers it offers 100,000+ vetted experts averaging 19+ years of experience, many of them former Big 3 consultants and Fortune 500 operators, and it can source an individual, a project team, or a boutique firm.
That depth comes with an enterprise shape. Pricing is quote-based rather than published, engagements are project-based, and you direct the consultants. If you are a founder or a small business without procurement capacity, this is almost certainly not your list entry.

Best for a VA bundled with a coaching program: Doneverse
Doneverse sells a packaged “Growth System” that pairs a pre-trained, Philippines-based marketing assistant (a “Doer”) with founder coaching and a proprietary playbook from Grace Lever, plus design and tech team support behind the assistant. Matching runs on a 14-day cycle. If you want the methodology as much as the person, that bundle is genuinely differentiated.
Neither pricing nor contract terms are published, so a consultation is required to learn both. The coaching is part of the package rather than optional, which is the point if you want it and the wrong shape if you only want the work done.

Best for ongoing US-based support across three skill levels: Nacho
Nacho is the category we built for, so read this section with that in mind. One monthly Talent Budget, starting at $1,000, buys any mix of Executive Assistants at $40 an hour, Specialists at $65 an hour, and Fractional Executives at $125 an hour, all 100% US-based with no exceptions, with a dedicated account manager and weekly reporting included.
The difference from most of this list is that you are not buying a person, you are buying capacity you can reallocate. A month heavy on inbox and travel can shift the next month toward CRM cleanup or growth strategy without a new contract, a new vendor, or a new search. Onboarding starts with a $300 Delegation Strategy Plan that maps what to delegate and the talent mix to do it, and the Nacho Guarantee means that if the fit is wrong we re-match you for free.
Where Nacho loses, plainly. It is not the cheapest way in: Wing at $499 and Zirtual at $549 both start below our $1,000 minimum, and both are month-to-month from day one where Nacho asks for an initial 3-month commitment. Matching takes about a week after your Delegation Strategy Plan is approved, which is slower than Toptal’s advertised sub-24-hour matches. Being 100% US-based means we cannot compete with offshore hourly rates and will not try. And if you need one deeply specialized hire, a senior engineer, a board director, an enterprise transformation team, Toptal, Bolster, and Catalant are better built for that than we are.
Nacho started in 2015 as Trusty Oak in Austin, Texas, and rebranded to Nacho in 2026. See how pricing works or read the full process.
What should you ask before signing with any of them?
Ask five questions: where is the talent physically located, what is the total monthly cost including platform or onboarding fees, what happens if the match does not work out, how long is the minimum commitment, and who manages the work day to day. Those five answers separate every company on this list.
The last one catches the most people. Marketplaces such as Upwork, Freelancer.com, Toptal, Go Fractional, Bolster, and Catalant hand you a person and step back. Managed services such as Nacho, BELAY, Athena, Wing, Magic, Zirtual, and Doneverse keep some layer of oversight in the middle. Neither is better in the abstract, but buying a marketplace when you wanted a managed service is the single most common way this decision goes wrong.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best virtual assistant company?
There is no single best one. Wing publishes the lowest price at $499 a month, Zirtual has the lowest US-based entry price at $549, Toptal is strongest for elite specialized freelancers, and Nacho covers ongoing US-based work across admin, specialist, and strategic levels from one budget. Match the provider to the job.
How much do virtual assistant companies cost?
Published starting prices in this guide range from $499 a month (Wing) to $3,000 a month (Athena) for dedicated assistants. Nacho starts at a $1,000 monthly Talent Budget plus a $300 Delegation Strategy Plan. Several providers, including BELAY, Catalant, Go Fractional, and Doneverse, do not publish pricing at all.
Are US-based Virtual Assistants worth the higher rate?
They are worth it when the work needs judgment, real-time responsiveness, or direct contact with your clients. A US-based Executive Assistant in your time zone can make decisions during your workday without a handoff lag. When work is well-defined and repeatable, offshore providers deliver the same output for less.
What is the difference between a virtual assistant company and a freelance marketplace?
A marketplace such as Upwork or Freelancer.com lets you post work, pick a freelancer, and manage them yourself, with fees layered on top. A virtual assistant company vets and matches the person for you and keeps some oversight in place. Marketplaces cost less in dollars and more in your time.
Can a virtual assistant company handle executive-level strategy work?
Some can. Nacho includes Fractional Executives at $125 an hour inside the same monthly budget as Executive Assistant and Specialist work. Go Fractional and Bolster specialize in senior executives and board seats, and Catalant sells enterprise strategy consultants. Most task-focused VA services do not offer this tier at all.
How long does it take to get matched with a Virtual Assistant?
It varies widely. Toptal cites average matches in under 24 hours, Doneverse runs a 14-day matching cycle, and Nacho takes about a week after your Delegation Strategy Plan is approved. Faster is not automatically better: a fast match on a poorly defined need usually means re-matching later.
Still deciding?
If your answer to “what do I actually need” is still forming, that is normal, and it is the real reason most first assistant hires fail. Start by writing down every task you did last week that someone else could have done, then sort it by whether it needed your judgment. That list tells you which column of the table above you belong in.
If it lands you on US-based support that spans admin, specialist, and strategic work, book a discovery call and we will talk through it. If it lands you somewhere else on this list, use the comparison links above, or browse every Nacho comparison in one place.
